TOUGH DESIGN
Tough Body with Rugged Design
The DMC-TS4 is shockproof, waterproof, dustproof and freezeproof in design. Swim along with tropical fish and capture shots of beautiful coral reefs, or take recordings of your friends around a camp fire. The DMC-TS4 is an extremely versatile camera that you can take with you wherever the action calls.

With waterproof performance to a depth of 12m equivalent to the "IPX8" and "IP6X" standard, the DMC-TS4 supports active shooting on a beach, underwater or in a pool. If the camera gets dirty, soil and dust can be washed off by using water.

The DMC-TS4 is shockproof from a height up to 2m in accordance with the "MIL-STD 810F Method 516.5-Shock" test standard. It lets you shoot actively while moving around with the camera in one hand.

The DMC-TS4 is dustproof equivalent to the "IPX8" and "IP6X" standard. While hiking or playing sports, fine d ust particles can enter through gaps in the camera body and cause malfunction. The DMC-TS4 can be used in these activities without problems.

With freezeproof to -10 degrees C, the DMC-TS4 supports shooting while skiing, snowboarding or skating.

Quad Indicator
The DMC-TS4 is specially designed for active outdoor use. It adopts GPS, compass, altimeter and even barometer to show and record altitude, barometric pressure and orientation data. The barometer also works for indicator for depth underwater.

Altimeter Log
The altitude gains higher accuracy by using GPS data with DMC-TS4. The barometric trend is available which helps users to forecast the climate and the log of altimeter log tells how high he/she was.

GPS Function
The LUMIX GPS displays not only latitudes and longitudes, but also the area information that covers 203 countries or regions and the landmark information of over 1,000,000 locations in 82 countries or regions.

My Lan dmark Function
You can even create your own landmarks with the DMC-TS4 for your home, family's or any places you like. (Max. 50 places).

Easy-to-Set
Simply select “GPS” and shoot, and then information of latitude and longitude is recorded to EXIF data of the photo / video.*2

Auto Clock Setting
Internal clock of the camera is automatically adjusted to the local time of the place where the camera is, so you do not have to set the clock manually whether you go abroad or come back home.

About Waterproof / Dustproof performance of the camera
Waterproof/Dustproof Performance
This camera’s waterproof/dustproof rating complies with the “IPX8” and “IP6X” ratings. Provided the care and maintenance guidelines described in this document are strictly followed, this camera can operate underwater, to a depth not exceeding 12 m (40 feet) for a time not exceeding 60 minutes.*1

Anti-shock Performance
This camera also complies with “MIL-STD 810F Method 516.5-Shock”. The camera has cleared a drop test from a height of 2 m (6.6 feet) onto 3 cm (0.1 feet) thick plywood. In most cases this camera should not sustain any damage if dropped from a height not exceeding 2 m (6.6 feet).*2

This does not guarantee no destruction, no malfunction, or waterproofing in all conditions.
*1 This means that the camera can be used underwater for specified time in specified pressure in accordance with the handling method established by Panasonic.
*2 “MIL-STD 810F Method 516.5-Shock” is the test method standard of the U.S. Defense Department, which specifies performing drop tests from a height of 122 cm (4 feet), at 26 orientations (8 corners, 12 ridges, 6 faces) using 5 sets of devices, and passing the 26 orientation drops within 5 devices. (If failure occurs during the test, a new set is used to pass the drop orientation test within a total of 5 devices)
Panasonic’s test method is based on the above “MIL-STD 810F Method 516.5-Shock”.
However, the drop height was changed from 122 cm (4 feet) to 200 cm (6.6 feet) dropping onto 3 cm (0.1 feet) thick plyboard. This drop test was passed. (Disregarding appearance change such as loss of paint or distortion of the part where drop impact is applied.)

Handling of the camera
Waterproofing is not guaranteed if the unit is subject to an impact as a result of being hit or dropped etc. If an impact to the camera occurs, it should be inspected (subject to a fee) by a Panasonic’s Service Centre to verify that the waterproofing is still effective.
When the camera is splashed with detergent, soap, hot spring, bath additive, sun oil, sun screen, chemical, etc., wipe it off immediately.
Waterproof function of the camera is for sea water and fresh water only.
Any malfunction caused by customer misuse, or mishandling will not be covered by the warranty.
The inside of this unit is not waterproof. Water leakage will cause malfunction.
Supplied accessories are not waterproof (excluding Hand Strap).
Card and battery are not waterproof. Do not handle with a wet hand. Also, do not insert wet card or battery into the camera.
Do not leave the camera for a long period of time in places where temperature is very low (at ski resorts or at high altitude etc.) or very high [above 40°C (104°F)], inside a car under strong sunlight, close to a heater, on the beach, etc. Waterproof performance may be degraded.
LENS PERFORMANCE

LEICA DC Lens with Folded Optics Technology
The DMC-TS4 features a high-quality LEICA DC lens* with 4.6x optical zoom from 28mm wide-angle (35mm camera equivalent: 28-128mm). The folded optics of shaft guide method is adopted to secure the toughness of the lens unit. This lens unit comprises 10 elements and a prism unit in 8 groups, including an ED lens and 5 aspherical lenses with 6 aspherical surfaces passing the Leica's stringent standards to deliver exceptional optical performance to the edges.

28mm Wide-angle Lens
The 28mm wide-angle lens* lets you easily capture large groups of people indoors or expansive architectural structures and scenes with dynamic width and rich perspective, even from short distances.

9.3x Intelligent Zoom
The Intelligent Zoom is an extensive zoom function using digital zoom, however, you can even draw the subject 2x closer than the original optical zoom with minimum deterioration of image quality thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology. This means the 4.6x optical can virtually extend to 9.3x equivalent.

POWER O.I.S.
The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) suppresses the low-frequency vibrati on hand-shake component, which is physically generated when pressing the shutter button or when shooting at night with a slow shutter speed.
IMAGE QUALITY
12.1-megapixel Hi-Speed CCD
The 12.1-megapixel CCD with 2-channel signal output structure boasts higher signal transfer speed for the operations that require high performance and speed such as full HD video recording and high speed continuous shooting. The image quality is also improved thanks to the higher sensitivity which is made possible by highly efficient light condensation adoption larger on-chip micro lenses.

Venus Engine
The DMC-TS4's Venus Engine processes large amount of full HD data at high-speed. At the same time, the multi-task image-processing engine, the Venus Engine realizes a super-fast response time.

Intelligent Noise Reduction System
The excellent S/N ratio of the CCD sensor and the Intelligent Noise Reduction system in the Venus Engine make both photos and videos shot at an y sensitivity from low to high and boast outstanding clearness.

Intelligent Resolution Technology
Apart from the uniform enhancement of sharpness, the innovative technology Intelligent Resolution precisely performs signal processing pixel by pixel in the most effective way according to the area. As a result, images are naturally clear and crisp.
VIDEO

1920 x 1080 Full HD Video in AVCHD Format / MP4 Format
The DMC-TS4 is an advanced photographic tool for recording not only great photos but also beautiful full HD 1,920 x 1,080 videos in AVCHD (MPEG-4 / H.264) format*1 / MP4 format. The AVCHD format excels in the compatibility with AV equipment like HDTVs or Blu-ray Discâ„¢ players. The MP4 format has higher compatibility with computers.
High-quality Sound
The videos come with the high-quality sound of Dolby® Digital Creator, to offer highly realistic sound to the motion images.

Wind Cut
The Wind Cut function is available to block out most of the noise from background wind. This gives you higher quality sound when taking images on breezy days.

POWER O.I.S. with Active Mode
For more effective countermeasure against blur, the Active Mode is equipped with the DMC-TS4 for an option of image stabilization in video recording. This mode is especially effective in active video recording such as shooting while walking.

LED Light
The DMC-TS4 features an LED light that records beautiful videos even in dusky underwater environments or at a nighttime camp. A convenient auto function also automatically turns on the LED when the ambient light becomes dim.

4.6x Optical Zoom in Video Recording
The DMC-TS4 lets you use a 4.6x zoom for videos. It takes you right up close to images like animals and sports scenes.

Miniature Effect
The Miniature Effect Mode in which the peripherals are defocused while saturation and contrast is emphasized to look the picture like a diorama. The video recorded is played back in 10x fast-forwarding making it more comical to watch*.

* Sound will not be recorded with Miniature Effect and approximately 1/10 of the time period is recorded. (If you record for 10 minutes, the resulting motion picture recording will be approximately 1 minute long)
SHOOTING FUNCTIONS
Time Lapse Shot
Once the start time, the interval and the number of picture to shoot are set, the camera automatically records images. You can leave the camera and get a record of stationary observation for subjects such as flowers coming into bloom, scudding cloud, or wild animals in nature.

Fun Functions â€" Shooting
Miniature Effect
The Miniature Effect Mode in which the peripherals are defocused while saturation and contrast is emphasized to make the picture look like a diorama.

Panorama Shot
The Panorama Shot Mode makes it is possible to shoot a 360-degree horizontal / vertical panoramic image with consequent shots taken by overlaying the previous picture.

Fun Functions â€" Playback
Auto Retouch
The Auto Retouch function adjusts contrast and brightness to give different impression to the photo with just a press of a button. Appropriate retouch is automatically applied depending on the image â€" if the image was shot too dark, it can be clear and bright to look it nicer with this function.

Handheld Night Shot Mode
The Handheld Night Shot Mode generates a beautiful night scenery with illumination by multi-layering the images shot consecutively. Bright, glamorous night scenery can be recorded without using a tripod.
3D Photo Mode
The 3D Photo Mode* produces a 3D image in the camera. The image-processing method used by LUMIX records beautiful images with less distortion or visible image links.

* The picture size is fixed to 2-megapixel (16:9).
3D Image Viewer
Take 20 panning shots and the camera selects the two most suitable images â€" one for the right eye and one for the left eye â€" to synthesize a 3D composite.

The 3D image can be played back on MPO-compatible equipment such as VIERA HDTVs and digital photo frames, or printed.
RESPONSE
Sonic Speed AF
The Sonic Speed AF and a quick start-up time give the DMC-TS4 super high speed response that helps to catch even the most fleeting photo opportunities.

AF Tracking
Once you focus on your subject, the AF Tracking automatically tracks it until you press the shutter. When you're taking images of an active subject, like children or pets, this function eliminates the need to press the shutter button halfway down repeatedly to readjust the focus.

3.7 fps in 12.1-megapixel Full-resolution
The DMC-TS4 lets you snap off consecutive shots at approx. 3.7 frames per second in full resolution*1. You can take a series of shots, then choose the one you like the best and delete the rest. Y ou can also select High-speed Burst Mode or Flash Burst Mode.
USABILITY

iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode
In the iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, the camera does all the work, leaving you free to compose shots and capture moments in both photo and video recording. The Intelligent Resolution technology and 9.3x Intelligent Zoom are always activated in the iA Mode.

Shake Detection - POWER O.I.S.*1
Gyrosensors detect hand-shaking and the O.I.S. lens shifts to compensate, helping prevent blurring caused by hand-shaking.

Motion Deblur
The Motion Deblur Mode*2 judges the appropriate shutter speed and suppresses motion blur. The shutter speed rises as high as possible activating the high-sensitivity recording by pixel mixed readout method.

Motion Detection â€" Intelligent ISO Control*3
The Intelligent ISO Control function detects subject movement and automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions .

Face Recognition*4
The Face Recognition function remembers faces that have been registered in the camera and provides the faces with optimal focus and exposure.

Face Detection - Face Detection AF/AE*1
The Face Detection function detects faces anywhere in the frame and automatically chooses the optimal focus and exposure. The Face Detection also features the Digital Red-eye Correction (Red-eye Removal) in photo recording.

Subject Detection - AF Tracking
Once you focus on your subject, the AF Tracking automatically and continuously tracks it and keeps it in focus and proper exposure.

Scene Detection - Intelligent Scene Selector*5
The Intelligent Scene Selector senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects one of Scene Modes: Photo (Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait*6, Night Scenery or Sunset), Video (Scenery, Portrait, Macro or Low Light).

Happy Mode
The Happy Mode optimizes color, saturation and brightness t o make images more vivid and true to the color of the scene you remember.

Light Detection - Intelligent Exposure*1
The Intelligent Exposure corrects the brightness in parts of the image that are too dark due to insufficient lighting, backlighting or use of the flash. This produces natural images that are close to the way they actually look to the human eyes.

*1 The POWER O.I.S., Intelligent ISO Control, Face Detection AF/AE, and Intelligent Exposure are automatically turned on in the iA Mode and can be turned on or off in the P/M Mode or some Scene Modes.

*4 Turn the Face Recognition ON and register the person with full-face portrait on the shooting menu in advance.
Recognition performance varies greatly depending on shooting conditions, i.e., according to factors such as angle s, facial expression and lighting, so operation under all conditions cannot be guaranteed. Because the camera searches for faces that are similar to registered faces, there are cases where the faces are not correctly recognized when the registered image and the shooting image varies much. When facial characteristics are similar, particularly between parents and their children or brothers and sisters, the camera may not distinguish the faces.
*5 With some subject and shooting conditions, it is just not possible to judge the best shooting details. When this happens, it is recommended that you shoot with the Scene Mode that best suits your purpose.
*6 In the iA Mode, the Night Portrait is not identified when the flash is turned off.

Manual Exposure
The DMC-TS4 provides easy-to-use manual controls. You can set the aperture to control the depth of field, and adjust the shutter speed to freeze moving subjects or create a motion blur that exaggerates the feeling of movement.

2.7-inch LCD with AR Coating
The DMC-TS4's 2.7-inch LCD features 230K-dot Intelligent LCD with wide-viewing angle. It automatically adjusts the brightness in 11 steps according to shooting conditions. In addition, the AR (anti-reflective) coating LCD minimizes glare and provides clear images, for high visibility even in outdoor brightness.
ARCHIVE AND SHARE
3D Image Viewer / VIERA Link
Photos or videos recorded in AVCHD on SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Cards are easy to view on a Panasonic VIERA TV. Simply insert the card into the VIERA Image Viewer (SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card slot) on VIERA TV or Blu-ray Discâ„¢ players to playback your contents.

With the DMC-TS4, you can use an optional HDMI micro cable to output images you took from the camera directly to the TV for VIERA Link. The pictures taken with the 3D Photo Mode via the 3D Image Viewer offers you a whole new exciting experience.
